Wassmer Avation was founded in 1905. Benjamin Wassmer started by manufacturing propellers, often made from wood and with a large diameter.

Wassmer moved to Issoire in Puy-de-Dôme during the war. After having lost its way for a few years in the manufacture and repair of furniture, the Wassmer company returned to its planes, and to the maintenance of gliders and planes of the Popular Aviation Sections.

Wassmer became a real aircraft manufacturer when Jean Délémontez subcontracted the construction of the famous D112 and then the D120. After that, Wassmer launched its own aircraft construction and launched the WA20s in the 1950s. The WA 20 Javelin I appeared in August 1956.
