Bombardier was founded in 1942 in Canada by Joseph-Armand Bombardier. Its activity was initially quite broad, focused on the construction of equipment related to the transportation sector. As the company grew, it separated its fields of activity and Bombardier Aerospace made a name for themselves in 1986, when it bought Canadair.

In 2018, Bombardier was deemed the 4th largest producer of commercial aircraft in the world, behind the giants Boeing and Airbus and behind Brazil's Embraer. In recent years, Bombardier has had to detach itself from part of its business, including amphibious aircraft.

Today Haviland Canada belongs to Bombardier.
